This year, it was held in Singapore and yours truly was selected based on her application. <br />Anyway, pre-HPAIR, I was an active participant on the forums, where I got the opportunity to interact with delegates. To my chagrin, in every delegate's profile, their email address is displayed, and this became a problem for me when I checked my inbox to find:<br /><br /><em>hi i really like your name, very indian!</em></p><p><strong>You think? I was going more for Ethiopian. Oh well.</strong></p><p><em> well, im m____, 22, from india and im studying law, in my penultimate year. </em></p><p><strong>So?</strong></p><p><em>i love to chill, have fun, meet new people and make friends. </em></p><p><strong>If you think that is something to elicit a reaction, certainly not! Dude, chilling and making friends are activities normal and mentally stable people do. Suggesting that these are hobbies? That's when my red alert goes off. </strong></p><p><em>well the first thing i noticed was your smile in your pic, it was captivating! really beautiful. which has prompted me to send this email....</em></p><p><strong>I know, right?</strong></p><p><em>well it would be nice to get to know people before the conference.do you have a bigger picture of you? </em></p><p><strong>So that you can jerk off to it?</strong></p><p><em>my msn is m_______ we cna chat there too if u want..hope to hear from you soon</p><p>mihir</em><br /></p><p> </p><p>I honestly was not expecting such an email from someone allegedly intellectually superior and educated, enlightened blah blah blah. Anyway, I did add him on msn, did not tell him at all who I was, and scared the living daylights out of him too. I wish to God I had saved that conversation, but hell, I have the next best thing. My reply:</p><p>Hey Mihir,<br />Thanks for telling me that I have a beautiful smile, and I largely attribute it to my teeth, for which I give credit to my good genes. As for my name, I'm not too big a fan of it but I guess it's always good to know there are others who appreciate it. So you study law...how useful.<br />It is definitely nice to get to know people before the conference, which is precisely why the forum has been set up.<br />I do have bigger pictures of me, but they can only be viewed by individuals whom I know physically.
